Hiking in Norway.

Jotunheimen: Gjendesheim-Besseggen-Memurubu, July 2004

The very nice national park is situated approx. 350km North of Oslo, and is easy to get to by train/bus or car.

After a week course in glacier walking, it was a nice change to go the probably most beautiful national park or a least the park with the highest peaks in Norway: Jotunheimen. I had some four days walking. Here you see the most popular hike: Gjendesheim to Memurubu via the Peer Gynt fjell (mountain) Besseggen. Besseggen looks like a giant monster lying on the fjell waiting for someone or something to happen.

Besseggen is one of the most visited mountains in Norway, that is some 30-40.000 people each year. During my "stay" is guess 3-500 people did the 6 hours walk (no pause included).  Surely it was worth while to take some pause with breathtaking views. I was lucky to get there up first this Tuesday morning, and I saw Mountain Grouses (Fjell ryper) and tame reindeers (Rener). Down below I could see the two small boats pending between the small harbors.
