PYRENEES: VIGNEMALE

Back to the map

HI FRIENDS, HOLA AMIGOS, BON JOUR!

Here I have the pleasure to show a few of my photos from the interesting hike:

July 2001: CAUTERETS - VIGNEMALE - GAVARNIE

Actually we came wrong off the bus - but that was our luck for a nice hike. A nice girl suggested to us to walk to Gavarnie - instead of taken the bus. She was right - it was much prettier.

Please have some patience ness - because the photos are in high resolution - it could take some minutes to download the photos.

THE STATION (GARE) IN CAUTERETS!

After some 26 hours train and bus ride from Århus in Copenhagen we finally got to Cauterets in the France part of the Pyrenees.

Here you see the nice old train station

A HOTEL!

One of the nice hotels in town. Look the curtains.

WATERFALL:

On our way to Pont d´Espagne we passed some nice waterfalls..

PONT D´ESPAGNE

A local famous bridge....nice!

Normally full of (other) tourists - having their part of photos.s

LAC GAUBE!

After some walking we reaches the very green lake Gaube. It went famous in the late 18 century - because a myth rosed about a young just-married couple who drowned in the lake..... sad - but a nice place to die !

CHAMOIS / ISARD!

Hi, there. Suddenly we saw Chamois / Isards (local type of deer), later on marmots (screaming small ones) and a small fast weasel..... in the late afternoon before 8pm

MOON AT VIGNEMALE  !

This photo was taken in the night - with the moon so bright

EARLY MORNING !

Look into this nice lake - a small lake picturing a large mountain....

BREAKFAST & SHEEP'S.

Having breakfast together with some - bit to nosy hungry sheep's.

ROAD SIGN!

On many of the GR10 and HRP routes you find signs like these - not all surrounded by snow of course   ;-)

HI THERE

My friend from Denmark Tina and Jeannette from Holland.

SNOW LAKE

Tina and I at a snow lake in the warm sun.

LAC GAUBE VIEW

Yes - the view down to Refuge de Oulettes de Gaube and Lac Gaube was nice.

HI JEANNETTE

Jeanette at Vignemale .... smile now - nice!

DOWN ROAD

The easy part. Approx. 1000m down on a steep part of the hike. Good for your inner side of the knees.

This year apparently there were more snow than usual.

VOW - LOOK!

We could actually see the famous Breche De Roland in the distance - in the middle of the photo

HI THERE

I'm looking around from a cold spot.

LAC d´OSSOUE

Having a very cold wash in the very clear melting water - which actually later on floated our "kitchen" in the evening and we had to move the tent as well.

LOOKING BACK

On our way down to Gavarnie we had some nice views back to Vignemale
