PYRENEES: LUCHON - REFUGE MAUPAS
HI FRIENDS, HOLA AMIGOS, BON JOUR!
Here I have the pleasure to show a few of my photos from the interesting hike:
July 2001: LUCHON(500m) - REFUGE MAUPAS (2,400m)
We started by taking a taxi up to Parking Bois de Lis (1,150m). From there were a walk of 3 hours up to Refuge Maupas with complete backpacks......
Please have some patience ness - because the photos are in high resolution - it could take some minutes to download the photos.
| ROAD SIGN We decided to go up - despite of the rain and fog. Again a road sign - stating only 3 hour walk up to Refuge Maupas |
| WATERFALL in
THE MIST! Sometimes the mist makes it more beautiful. We passed some small waterfalls on our way up - a rather steep climb in the start - first hour through the forest. Well no big views - but then you can look at the flowers. |

MORE ROAD SIGNS: Nice road signs I must say! Later on we visited the Lac's |
LOCAL SMALL WEB Not the World Wide Web - but still a nice construction - picking up the mist a showing his(?) trap. |

JUBII - SUN! VOW - a nice surprise. As we walked up at approx. 2,000m the clouds lost the battle to the Sun. We were very pleased to see the sun - and had a nice dinner break in the warm sun. |
| REFUGE MAUPAS! Look there - the Refuge was put nicely just above the clouds. Couldn't be better - so amazing when you come from a low land.... |
|
| TOILET ! "Hi, Occupied" says Tina. There were no door in the toilet - but that was not necessary BECAUSE.... |
| TOILET VIEW ! The view from the toilet was so fantastic. To our opinion the best view ever from a toilet. |
|
| SUNSET - MAUPAS After a nice sunny day in 2,400m the sun decided to end the day in a nice colourful manner - thanks! |
| LOOK NOW ?! The next day the clouds and the magic were gone. The witch craft kettle - clouds coming up - going down was away - and there were "just" a plain view towards Superbagnéres - a cure and ski hotel..... hmmm. A little disappointing. |
|
| LAC BLUE The next day we went lake watching. The area is famous for its small different lakes......so we had to see that, of course ;-) |
| SNOW BLOCKS! Mr. Smart Guy posed to the photographer. Not bad view - Eh! |
|
|
|
LAC VERT. We came high above Lac Vert (The Green Lake). Surely that is green - and there were small fish in it - just small ones. |
| MORE SNOW On our way up to Lac Celinda we passed more snow in the sun. Actually it is rather nice to walk in the snow -- more easier than if there just were -no snow. |

|
CLOUDS COMING SHIT, suddenly clouds came up from the valley. We "rushed" to the nearest hill to consider the situation. Hmmmmmm - that was not good - because we didn't knew the way down from Lac Celinda. So we went down to Lac Charles - bad luck. But you have to take care in the mountains. |
| LUCK AGAIN! That gave us some luck, because we meet Yvette (Running Refuge Maupas 3months a year) friend. He had promised to catch some trout's for her that day. We had a nice talk - and eagerly he explained a route to Refuge Venasque in Spain. But we didn't have the food for such a long walk. No problem he handed out some bread and bacon - nice man. Thanks.... |
| WATCH THEM
HORSES! Well, some horses you can scare away the path - some others not. These were stubborn and we had to go around the big horses..... |
|
| SPONGES! We passed a sponge stroked old tree. VOW, here were a gigantic example of a hoof sponge..... smile.. jep, it was heavy as well. |
| BACK in LUCHON! The story ended nice - with sunshine in Luchon. Time to relax....... says Tina, again :-) |
|
That is the end of another two days nice walk with good views and nice people.
Unfortunately, Tina didn't have more than two weeks in France. I continued a week more, where I visited the avsome Parque Nacional Ordesa......look for that - use the map!
