PYRENEES: PARQUE NACIONAL ORDESA

Back to the map

HI FRIENDS, HOLA AMIGOS, BON JOUR!

Here I have the pleasure to show a few of my photos from the interesting hike:

July 2001: TORLA (1,500m) - Refugio Góriz (2,800m) - Monte Perdido (3,355m) - and back

This was one of my goals before I left Denmark - and I have been looking very much forward to visit this spectacular valley and mountain..

Please have some patience ness - because the photos are in high resolution - it could take some minutes to download the photos.

STARTED IN TORLA!

Taking the trains and buses from Lanemezan in France to Torla in Spain was a bit complicated.

Anyway I got the luck that Monday a reached Torla in the evening. Here you see the famous church in Torla.

CAMP SITE RIO ANA!

I found this nice camp site just outside Torla. This was rather quiet - opposite to the other I've heard and the camp lady was really nice.

RIO ANA SUPERMERCADO!

And you can by some basic stuff in the local Supermercado and have a cosy evening in the local café. I can recommend this quit and family friendly place - if you go there.

CLAVIJAS!

What is it? How difficult would it be? The clavijas became something difficult in my mind on the way up - but it really wasn't. And they were rather funny to climb despite my heavy backpack......unless it rains

ORDESA VALLEY!

A first glimpse to the astonishing valley. The charasteric steep sides makes some impression to you

WHAT IS CLAVIJAS!

Clavijas means ladder. How difficult would it be? How high? Many steeps? Steep? I was a little excited to find out.

HERE ARE THE CLAVIJAS!

So this was the way to go. I managed some few ones just beneath these. These looked a bit more difficult - for both feet and hands. A guy a the campsite café had the evening before told me that this would be a somewhat difficult part - a park guide just told me it wouldn't be a problem if you're not afraid of heights.

HERE THE CLAVIJAS ARE  !

Further around the corner I had to use the chain. A little exciting - but not difficult at all - just don't look down......!

VIEW TO COTATUERO FALLS.

Here I could se the clavijas form above when I walked on the Fraucata mini alti plano..... not to compare to Bolivia's Alti Plano ....which you find on my travel maps.

EDELWEISS!

Again I found Edelweiss. My first ones in Spain. A couple of photos of course - I really like these flowers......and hope to get better of than the guy who died when he tried to pick an Edelweiss to his passionate beloved to declare his love.

VIEW FROM FRAUCATA!

I took my time to relax from time to time. It is difficult to see, but on the green plateau some 2km away a group of four hikers had made their lunch rest.

MORE VIEWS!

I took the Fraucata route around the mountain to Refugio Góritz. It is a kind of flat plateau in approx. 2,400m where you have many rewarding views down the valley and to the steep mountain sides. VOW - so nice and distinguish from the Frence side.

BRECHÉ DE ROLAND

Again I had a nice view to the famous Breche de Roland - this nice sculpture with breathtaking views.

Refugio Góritz!

The Refugio is situated in 2.165m with a rather good view - not fantastic but good. Unfortunately the place was so crowed, because the school holiday was just started. Some groups of scouts and religious group occupied a lot of space and made a lot of noise - kids. Well, it's their country.

Here you get a idea of how crowed the place was....some have already left. The day before I counted 35 tents!! Say crowed....

GOING UP MT PERDIDO

Some parts were covered with hard snow - so I planned it right to bring crampons and an ice pick. Furthermore, some steep parts made it a little hard.

TWO TOUGH GUYS!

Here you see Quique (short for Enriquqe in Spanish) and I. Together with his brother Antonio we climbed Monte Perdido. It was not difficult - but rather hard sometimes.

On the Top!

Here I am on the top of Monte Perdido in 3.355m in relative good weather but some clouds. It took me approx. 3 hours to get up, using crampons under my boots and an ice pick

A classic photo!

Of course we had to do some "Japan style" photos. When you are there you just do that kind of stuff.

Hmmmmm good views?

Well, we didn't get the good view that day, but the photos must be taken anyway.

DOWN THE VALLEY

It took only 1 hour and 3 quarters to go/run down. Still some clouds came around - but nice views anyway

ORDESA VALLEY

Here you see the start of the fantastic Ordesa valley. This is really a place worth while to visit.

CASCADA DE COTATUERO

From the path Faja de Pelay I could look back to Cascada de Cotatuero - really nice.
