Here I show you some of my photos from my tour in
Estonia from December 1996 & January 1997. I had the chance to visit my
friend Helle (Denmark) who worked in the capital Tallinn for some time.
That gave me a chance to meet some of
the local Estonians - what a nice surprise - despite their language which
reminds about Finnish, they are very friendly and offers hospitality.
According to old stories the Danish flag
came down from the sky in October in
1492 in a local battle where Danes were involved - so we claim to have the
oldest flag in the world. I'd say that we just picked up a local banner flag and
choose it as a national icon - called a flag.
The
Christmas was spend in Viitna at Helle's friends who have horses. Of course we
had to go in a one-horse-cane just like in the very famous song.
We stayed in a thin Russian Army tent with a army
stove in the middle. We fired up in the stove all the time because the
temperature outside was down to -29 deg C !!! That was really cold and inside
the tent the temperature was approx. 0 to -5 deg. inside. Anyway there was a lot
of nice food and friendly people - Mericke & René and their two kids,
Christmas presents and a Christmas tree.
