The worlds most southern city (> 40,000 inhabitants) Ushuaia in Argentina on Tierra Del Fuego. New year evening 2000 was a very big party and the national TV were there as well.

Ushuaia is the best place to go if you want to go to Antartika. First week 2000 prices was as low as 1,500 US$ on promotion but the week after 2,500 ! I missed my chance to go there because I went to Isla De Navarino more to the South and in Chile.
